How To Build More Traffic To Your Blog/Site Without Linking

If you have been involved in the SEO realm, I am very sure you already know how time consuming it is to create backlinks back to your website. If you have not been involved, and are new to the niche, let me be the first to tell you – backlinking takes time!

I have been working on piecing together a few easy to use methods, which will allow you to drive more Google traffic to your offer/site/blog, in contrast to backlinking.

Let’s Start With The Basics.

I want to go over a couple of the basics, as well as an example, so even the most novice of marketers can follow along:
First and foremost, a backlink is one of the most powerful SEO methods available today.

(SEO = Search Engine Optimization: the internet runs on search, so essentially SEO is optimizing your website to be found in search engines by users more easily/efficiently)

That is the short version of it…

With that being said, one of the most powerful ways to optimize your website for search, is using a backlink.

(Backlink: an incoming hyperlink from one web page, to another website)

Below is an example of a backlink in action:

“As stated before, I am piecing together 5 awesome ways to increase traffic from Google without using backlinks. I have been searching the web to find some answers, and came across Cyrus Shephard of Moz.com, where I will be highlighting a few of his techniques which I really find value in.”

So above, if you take notice, Cyrus Shephard is underlined, as well blue in color. If you click his name, it links back to his website. This is a live working example of a backlink – which I just provided for him, and will help with his SEO. – does this

make sense?
Both of these concepts, backlinking & SEO, are animals on their own which I will dedicate a post on at a later date. Today, the focus is driving traffic without using backlinks.

So let us begin…

Number 1: Updating Fresh Content.

Updating fresh valuable content consistently, plays a large role in your websites ability to become an authority, and subsequently higher Google rankings – higher google rankings means more traffic.

There is a beautiful article here on the subject, with charts, numbers, and graphs to help put it all in perspective.

Websites that do not add new links, frequently fall to the wayside.

Google scores freshness in a couple ways, here a few to keep in mind:

Here’s a cool little visual for you.

Number 2: On Page SEO.

This is a beast all on its own, and has about 1,000 working parts involved in it.
For this reason, I am going to send you over to a recommended reading, that goes over the 12 basics of On-Page optimization.

Number 3: Improving Site Speed.

If you were to improve site speed, you will improve visitor satisfaction – probably one of the most important techniques to help you in your journey to drive traffic. If you improve visitor satisfaction, you will may receive the benefits associated with that, which include: backlinks to your site, social bookmarking, newsletter optins etc…

In this day and age, consumers have such a small attention span, you will lose them right off the hop if your site is slow.

What we have learned this year, is that actual page load speed may be than Time To First Byte (TTFB).

TTFB – The amount of time a server takes to respond to a request.

Number 4: Improving User Satisfaction.

We know that the Google Panda algorithm punishes “lowquality” websites. We also know that Google likely measures satisfaction as users click on search results.

The goal is to not have your users leave your site, to then go find the answers elsewhere in Google – many SEO experts believe if you prevent this from happening, you will be rewarded with higher positioning.

Marketing is a beast of an animal, so you may be asking – How do I improve user experience on my website?

Here is a great article by Blogspot, that will help explain to you actionable steps. (look another backlink… :P)

Number 5: Video Optimization.

Studies have shown, that our eyes will gravitate towards a video snippet over anything else.

Here is a cool little study on the subject right here. I found it extremely interesting.

If you do not know already, I am going to point you in the right direction of HOW to get your video snippets in the Google search.

Distilled.net has a great step by step article of how to make this happen! Just follow it click by click!
